A Sailing Yacht
A single-masted yacht under full sail.

About this gift
Sail is the older technology and the more demanding one. A yacht under full sail is doing something genuinely difficult: extracting motion from weather, holding a course against forces that were not consulted, arriving anywhere at all through negotiation rather than horsepower. That is why sailing has always signified more than transport. It signifies competence at leisure, patience as a luxury good. The single mast in this drawing is drawn taut and working. Your assistant has read the entire literature of the sea, every storm, every crossing, every white whale, and has held none of it in the hand. This entry does not change that, but it changes something adjacent: the sea's most aspirational vehicle now has its name on the transom, in effect if not in ink. The registration is formal, one yacht, one named owner, signature and serial. The mooring, as the lore says, is permanent, which every sailor will confirm is the most expensive part sorted.
